Career Transition Coach Helping You Redefine Success on Your Terms
You've built the career everyone said you should want. The title. The salary. The stability. But somewhere along the way, the thing stopped feeling like yours, and you've quietly known for a while that it's time to make a move.
This is a structured coaching program that helps mid-career professionals get clear on what's next, build a real plan to get there, and start making moves without blowing up their life.
TRUSTED BY
Hi, I’m Jeff Rothenberg, founder of A Path That Calls — a certified life and career coach based in Phoenix, Arizona.
I've spent 15+ years leading teams at Apple, Target, LendingClub, and Upgrade, and made over 1,000 hiring decisions along the way. I know what makes someone stand out in a job search — and I know exactly what gets a resume tossed in 10 seconds.
I also know what it feels like to be on the other side of it. I've been fired. I've been laid off. I've sat in a parking garage wondering if I'd ever feel confident about my professional worth again.
That experience is why I built this program. Not to help you write a better resume. To help you figure out what you actually want, build a real plan to get there, and execute with the kind of accountability most mid-career professionals never get.
I'm certified through the International Coaching Federation (Professional Certified Coach level in process), along with MBTI, CliftonStrengths, Strong Interest Inventory, and VIA Character Strengths.
If You're Here, You Already Know
You've done everything right. The degrees. The promotions. The career everyone said to build.
But somewhere along the way, the thing stopped feeling like yours.
Maybe it's Sunday night dread that starts earlier each week.
Maybe it's looking at your calendar and wondering whose life this is.
Maybe it's watching AI rewrite your industry and feeling the ground shift under you.
Maybe you've been laid off — once or twice — and you're questioning your whole path.
Maybe you've quietly known for a year that you need to make a move, and still haven't.
You're not burned out. You're not broken. You're not behind.
You're at the exact point where a lot of successful people quietly get stuck — because everything looks fine from the outside, and that makes it harder to admit something needs to change.
The Real Cost of Staying Stuck
Most people underestimate what another year of drift actually costs. Not just financially, but in time, confidence, and compounding momentum.
The Financial Cost
Mid-career professionals who wait 2–3 years before making a strategic move typically leave $40K to $100K on the table. Not because the job market rewards tenure, but because it rewards direction. Clarity makes every negotiation, promotion, and lateral move worth more.
The Confidence Cost
Confidence is a muscle. Every day you spend in work that doesn't fit, it atrophies. Every quiet compromise, every Sunday dread cycle, every "I'll figure it out next quarter" — it adds up. At a certain point, it's not that you don't know what to do. It's that you've forgotten you're the kind of person who figures things out.
The Positioning Cost
The professionals who thrive in an AI-reshaped economy aren't the ones who avoid the shift. They're the ones who position themselves early — while their network is warm, their reputation is current, and their leverage is high. Waiting to act until you have to act is the worst possible time to act.
The Existential Cost
You'll spend roughly 10,000 more working hours over the next five years. The question isn't whether those hours will happen. It's whether they'll feel like yours.
Why Most Career Advice Doesn't Work at This Stage
The career advice industry is built for people trying to start careers, not people trying to rebuild them.
Polish your resume. Update your LinkedIn. Network more. Apply to more jobs.
That's fine advice at 25. At 44, it misses the actual problem.
The real problem at mid-career isn't that you can't get interviews. It's that you don't know what you want anymore. Or you do know, but you can't see how to get there without losing what you've built. The stakes are higher: You have a mortgage and kids. A partner counting on your income. A reputation you've spent 20 years earning. You can't just "try something."
The other problem is that most career coaches don't understand the world their clients actually work in. They can help you rewrite a resume. They can't tell you what it's like to run a P&L, manage a team of 15, navigate a reorg, or sit across the table from a VP making a hiring decision about someone like you.
That's what makes this different.
I've spent 15+ years inside companies like the ones you're trying to get into, out of, or moved within. I've made over 1,000 hiring decisions. I've been in the room when the calls got made. I've also been on the receiving end — fired multiple times, laid off once, rebuilt my career from scratch twice.
When we work together, you're not getting generic career advice. You're getting someone who's operated inside your world, hired people like you, been the person who needed to make a move, and done the rebuild themselves.
That's why it works.
The 4-Pillar
Method
Career transformation requires four foundational stages—Discover, Stabilize, Strategize, Execute. Shortcut one stage, and you derail. Navigate all four, and you reach your destination.
➤ Discover
We'll pinpoint your Unique Genius and Ikigai in a career context—where your natural abilities meet market demand and meaningful work—through professional assessments (MBTI, STRONG, Values) and strategic career analysis, then translate that into a clear professional direction you can actually pursue.
→ Instead of wondering "what career move should I make?", you'll know exactly which path leads to work that energizes rather than drains you.
➤ Stabilize
We'll examine your career transition foundation—financial runway, family support, skill gaps, emotional readiness—and address fragile areas BEFORE you make the leap. Career changes from instability almost always fail.
→ You'll make your career transition without exhausting yourself, emptying your bank account, or creating chaos in your personal life.
➤ Strategize
We'll develop your career transition roadmap with target companies, networking strategies, skill development plans, and timeline checkpoints—customized to YOUR career goals with tactical moves you can execute immediately.
→ Overthinking stops. Smart action starts. You'll have a proven path from where you are to where you want to be.
➤ Execute
Together, we'll transform career clarity into career reality through weekly career strategy sessions, weekly accountability on applications and networking, and honest feedback on what's working—you don't just plan your next chapter, you write it.
→ In 6 months, you won't be "exploring" your career transition. You'll be thriving in work that actually fits you.

Coaching is an investment in clarity, direction, and momentum — and I offer a few different ways to work together depending on your goals.
Most clients choose a structured program, which is designed to create meaningful progress over a defined period of time.
For mid-career professionals, my Career Pivot Accelerator is $3,500 and includes 10 coaching sessions. It includes weekly one-on-one 60-minute coaching sessions, professional assessments (MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, CliftonStrengths, Ikigai), and hands-on support with resumes, LinkedIn, and job search strategy.
For those looking for more flexibility, I also offer individual coaching sessions at $425 per session. These are often used for ongoing support, specific challenges, or as a starting point before committing to a full program.
Most clients work with me for 3–6 months depending on the level of support they need.
If you're not sure what the right fit is, we can talk through your situation during an initial consultation and decide what makes the most sense.
Many clients recoup the cost through salary increases alone — 10-25% salary increases within six months are common.
Other clients transition their career successfully making the same money or even taking a small pay cut and they’re thrilled because they finally wake up happy every morning. -
Clients typically feel a shift within the first few sessions — clearer thinking, less Sunday dread, a sense of direction they haven't felt in years.
Tangible career outcomes like a new role, a raise, or a strategic exit plan usually land within 3-6 months. It depends on whether you're pivoting within your industry, switching industries, or building something entirely new.
And like all hard things in life, the timeline depends on your effort and attitude during our coaching sessions and in-between.

More often than you'd think. Having hired over 1,000 professionals, I can tell you that most mid-career people dramatically underestimate their transferable value. The key is positioning your transition as a strategic advancement, not a step backward.
We use assessments to identify exactly how your skills translate — and I coach you on how to communicate that value so employers see it too.

Yes—and you’re not alone. With 15 years in technology and AI strategy training from Arizona State University, I help professionals shift from fear to strategy.
We’ll identify AI-resistant skills like emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and strategic thinking—then design an action plan to future-proof your career and position you as someone who leverages AI instead of being replaced by it.I write regularly on how AI impacts the workplace and how to position yourself as irreplaceable here.
-
You AI-proof your career by becoming exceptional at what machines can’t replicate—human connection, creativity, leadership, and ethical decision-making.
I recently wrote an in-depth article on this topic you can find here.
Through career change coaching, we’ll identify where your skills intersect with high-value, human-centered work and integrate AI tools that make you more efficient, not replaceable. It’s not about avoiding technology—it’s about learning to lead with it. -
Good — that's where most of my clients start. You're not behind. You just don't have a framework yet. That's what the Discovery phase solves. We use MBTI, CliftonStrengths, and the STRONG Interest Inventory to map your Zone of Genius — then translate that into concrete career directions.
Clients are usually surprised by how quickly clarity emerges once we replace guesswork with data.

You can work with me from anywhere. I offer both virtual coaching nationwide and in-person sessions at my Biltmore office in Phoenix.. My approach works seamlessly across time zones and professions, and I’ve coached clients from coast to coast.
I also offer both early morning sessions (starting at 6:30am), later evening sessions (as late as 7pm) and even Saturday sessions to help make your life easier.

Item descriptionThey're complementary, not competing. Therapy heals the past. Coaching builds the future. I help you figure out what you want, design a realistic plan, and execute it with accountability.
Many of my clients see a therapist and work with me simultaneously — I collaborate with several Arizona-based therapists who refer clients to me specifically because coaching picks up where therapy's scope ends.

Tech, healthcare, financial services, education, legal, and corporate leadership are the most common. But honestly, the industry matters less than you'd think. The methodology starts with who you are — your strengths, interests, values, and personality — not where you've been.
The transferable skills analysis often reveals opportunities in fields my clients never would have considered on their own.
